5 Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer Before You Book

Choosing your wedding photographer is a big decision.. after all, these are the photos you'll look back on for the rest of your life! Whether you're just starting your search for the perfect fit, or narrowing down your favorites, asking the right questions can help you feel confident in your choice. Here are five thoughtful questions every couple should ask their wedding photographer before booking.

1. Can we see full galleries from recent weddings?

It’s easy to fall in love with a few highlight images on Instagram, but seeing full galleries gives you a much better sense of how your photographer handles every part of the day—from getting ready to the dance floor. Look for consistency, storytelling, and how they manage different lighting situations.

2. What’s your approach to posing and candid moments?

Some photographers are more hands-on with posing, while others blend into the background to capture natural moments. There’s no right or wrong—it’s just about what fits your personality best. Ask how they’ll help you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera.

Pro tip: If you’re camera-shy, you’ll want a photographer who gives gentle direction without making things feel stiff or awkward.

3. What’s included in your wedding collections?

Not all packages are created equal. Be sure to ask about hours of coverage, second shooters, engagement sessions, albums, and delivery timelines. A clear understanding of what’s included (and what’s optional) helps avoid surprises later on.

Bonus tip: Ask about customizations or upgrades—like extra coverage or destination travel.

4. How do you handle unexpected situations, like rain or timeline delays, or even equipment failure!

Weddings rarely go 100% according to plan, and that’s okay! A seasoned photographer will know how to pivot and still get beautiful images, no matter what. Ask for examples of how they’ve handled curveballs in the past. We have been in business so long, and have so many back-up plans - we are ready to capture anything life throws at us! After all, it’s the unique twists that make the very best stories.

5. What happens after the wedding day?

From editing timelines to how your gallery is delivered, it’s helpful to understand what to expect once the big day is over. You might also ask about image backups, album design, or how long your gallery will be online. We have a personal reveal process to make delivery of your photos as magical as it can possible be!
